Vehicle sales grow by almost 30% YoY in September

More than 3 million vehicles already sold year to date, setting new record.

Sales in the automotive sector totaled 353,833 units in September, up 29.59% year over year, according to data released on Monday (1) by the National Vehicle Dealership Federation (Fenabrave). Compared to August, auto sales posted growth of 11.26%.

Year-to-date sales this year set a new record for the industry. A total of 3,025,862 vehicles were sold from January to September, an increase of 28.48% versus the same period of 2006.

Year-to-date sales at August had already posted the best performance in ten years. The data include passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles, trucks, buses, motorcycles, agricultural machinery and highway equipment.

Fiat led sales among assemblers in September, registering growth of 26.57% year over year in the month, followed by Volkswagen with growth of 24.46%. The two assemblers were followed by GM (22.73%) and Ford (7.71%).

The three assemblers also led the ranking in year-to-date sales, with a share of 26.03% at Fiat, which was followed by Volks (23.03%), GM (21.48%) and Ford (10.76%).
